Helena Taylor – Solicitor Q&A

02-01-2020

Helena Taylor joined Gardner Leader in 2017 and went on to complete her training with the firm, qualifying January 2020.

We asked one of our newest Solicitors Helena a series of questions to get to know her better-

Do you have any advice for future trainee solicitors?

Keep an open mind. The best thing about a training contract is you get to experience working in multiple departments and your preferred practice area may turn out to be something very different from what you initially expected. Also, always have a pen.

Why did you decide to train at Gardner Leader?

I wanted to ensure I trained somewhere that offered support and put real time and effort into training. From working at the firm as a paralegal, I knew that this was something I would not have to worry about at Gardner Leader.

Why did you decide to study law?

When I initially chose to study law, I didn’t do so because I was confident I wanted to become a solicitor at that stage. I simply chose a course that I felt would be both interesting and challenging as well as practical. A law degree helps you build on multiple different skills. It just so happened that I ended up engaging with the course and choosing to pursue law further.

What’s your ideal holiday destination and why?

Anywhere that has sun and interesting culture. I love the sun but I get restless after an hour or so lazing by the pool so I like to be able to explore. Somewhere with good food is definitely a bonus too.

What’s your favourite film?

I never tire of watching Dirty Dancing, that’s one of my favourite classics.

Who would you most like to step into the shoes of for a day?

I initially thought someone powerful like the Queen or the President of the US. However if it’s just for one day, I would probably have more fun being a Kardashian.

If you could pick up a new skill in an instant what would it be?

To be able to cook like a professional chef with ease.
