David competed for Great Britain at the Munich Olympics in 1972, is a former 10,000m world record holder, and is the last Englishman to have won the World Cross Country Championships. Post-retirement, David served as race director of the London Marathon and was the Chairman of the IAAF Road Running Commission. He was also a key architect of London’s 2012 Olympic marathon course.
David’s story is one of ambition, risk-taking, and refusal to follow the pack – on and off the track. David will reflect on the mindset, grit, and unconventional decisions that shaped his career, and how those lessons resonate far beyond sport.
